FEP plastic (fluorinated ethylene propylene copolymer) is a kind of high-performance thermoplastic fluoroplastics, which is copolymerized by tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) and hexafluoropropylene (HFP). The following is a detailed description of its definition, process and application:
I. Definition and Chemical Structure
FEP is a linear polymer synthesized by free radical polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene, and its molecular chain contains a few branched chains. Its chemical structure endows the material with excellent chemical resistance, high temperature resistance and electrical insulation.
2. physical and chemical properties
Melting point and density: The crystalline melting point is about 580ºF(304ºC) and the density is 2.15 g/cm, which belongs to soft plastics.
Mechanical properties: tensile strength, wear resistance and creep resistance are lower than those of some engineering plastics, but it has strong chemical inertia, low dielectric constant (2.1) and good weather resistance, and can be used in the range of -392ºF to 392ºF.
Other characteristics: nonflammable, corrosion-resistant, smooth and easy to clean.
3.the production process
FEP is prepared by polymerization, and the raw materials are tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene monomers. Processing methods include extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, etc., and the temperature (such as 320-350ºC in the injection area) and cooling time need to be accurately controlled.

Electronic and electrical: used for insulating layer of high-frequency cable, electronic circuit board, printed circuit board, etc. because of its low dielectric loss and chemical corrosion resistance.
Chemical industry and pipeline: as lining of chemical equipment, corrosion-resistant pipeline and seal, it is resistant to chemical corrosion.
Aerospace: used for high-temperature cables, seals and medical devices, with high temperature resistance and weather resistance.
Other fields: including medicine (such as catheter, infusion tube), machinery (such as bearing lubrication), etc., scenes requiring high transparency or special surface properties.
