Featurer
Physical state: Slightly yellow translucent, glossy, density of 1.38 g/cm ³, melting point of 212 ºC, softening temperature of 85 ºC.
Classification: Divided into two types: hard PVC (RPVC) and soft PVC. Hard PVC has high mechanical strength, while soft PVC is more elastic due to the addition of plasticizers (30-50%).
2. Mechanical and chemical properties
Mechanical strength: The Young's modulus of elasticity of hard PVC reaches 2900-3400 MPa, with excellent water pressure and impact resistance, suitable for fields such as pipelines and building materials.
Corrosion resistance: It has strong resistance to acids, alkalis, oxidants (except concentrated sulfuric acid and concentrated , and reducing agents, but is easily corroded by aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons.
Stability: High geometric stability, low shrinkage rate (0.2-0.6%), but prone to aging and brittleness under long-term light exposure.
3. Application Fields
Hard PVC: widely used in building pipes, doors and windows, panels, and bank cards.
Soft PVC: used for cable insulation layers, inflatable products, flooring (such as PVC flooring with wear-resistant, anti slip, fireproof and other characteristics), and rubber substitutes.
Other uses: electrical insulation material (due to its excellent dielectric properties), packaging film (toxicity should be considered to limit food contact).
4. Limitations
Temperature sensitivity: The use temperature is limited (hard ≤ 60 ºC, soft ≤ 45 ºC), and the strength decreases significantly at low temperatures (strength decreases by 80% at -20 ºC).
Processing difficulty: Poor flow characteristics, requiring the addition of lubricants or stabilizers; The processing of high molecular weight PVC is difficult, and low molecular weight materials are usually selected.
Toxicity issue: PVC stabilized with lead salts is not suitable for food packaging, and plasticizers are prone to volatilization, which may cause sticking during long-term storage.

Pipes and profiles: Hard PVC is used to manufacture water supply and drainage pipes, rainwater pipes, wire conduits, etc. It has the characteristics of corrosion resistance and lightweight;
Door and window frame: PVC doors and windows have excellent thermal and sound insulation performance, replacing traditional wood and metal materials;
Floor and wall panels: wear-resistant, easy to clean, widely used in indoor decoration.
Packaging industry

Film and container: used for food and drug packaging (such as mineral water bottles, shrink wrap), with moisture-proof and fresh-keeping functions;
Artificial leather and coated products: such as leather bags, raincoats, waterproof fabrics, etc.
Electronic appliances

Cable insulation layer: Soft PVC is used for wire and cable sheaths to ensure electrical safety.
Medical field

Medical devices, such as infusion bags and blood bags, require special treatment to ensure non toxicity and biocompatibility.
